This poem reminds me of my past summers when I was a young child. I had such a great time during summer, and it always seemed to last forever. My summer days were most often filled with diving into relaxing pool water, playing fun filled games with my friends, and navigating my bike throughout the cul de sac. This poem also reminds me of climbing up huge magnolia trees like a monkey swinging through the forest. One annual event that it reminds me of is watching fireworks on the Fourth of July. I do not know why, but I guess it is because this holiday takes place right in the middle of the summer. My mom, my dad, and I would always go out to the golf course where the fireworks show was displayed. Us and many other families laid out our blankets, sat back, and watched the beautiful light show. This poem also reminds me of a bad time. When I was about five years old, I was riding my bike through my neighborhood. My imagination caught hold of me, and I pretended that the crunchy leaves on the ground were highly explosive bombs. I swerved my bike in and out, side to side, just to avoid touching those leaves. Like a bomb exploding, I flipped off my bike and landed on my face. I let out a scream and my parents came rushing to rescue me. It turned out that my front tooth had gone through my lip and pierced a hole. I had to get stitches that night, and that was not fun! Overall, this poem reminds me of great, sunny, summer days.

Toothpaste With Science

Some people disapprove of putting fluoride in drinking water. This is because too much fluoride can stain teeth, even though it keeps them highly resistant to decay. I am on the side of putting fluoride in drinking water if under the circumstance that the amount of fluoride inserted was enough to protect tooth decay but not so much that it would stain teeth. This is a good idea because many people’s teeth start decaying when they age, but if fluoride is consumed regularly by people in their drinking water then it would give extra protection to their teeth. Before fluoride could be widely used in toothpastes and mouthwashes, a hydrated silica abrasive that does not hinder sodium fluoride dissociation had to be used. One of the side effects of using fluoride in drinking water that I am worried about is the chance of getting cancer. Evidence gathered in 1952 showed that fluoride shortens the lifespan of cancer-prone mice. Another effect that I am worried about in fluoridation is the risk of thyroid disease. Thyroid disease can cause fatigue, depression, anxiety, infertility, and overweight. I have now given my opinion on fluoride being added to water and toothpaste.
